Jan Sircus

Jan is co-founder and Managing Director, Creative, of Maple Leaf Studios, Vancouver. As a leading international creative talent, Jan is widely recognized for his broad-based conceptual skills designing visitor attractions, themed entertainment concepts, and innovative media experiences.
Jan was a Senior VP, Creative Development for Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), leading major international theme park projects and location-based entertainment, including Disney Studios, Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland. After Disney, Jan led LIG’s planning, design and production for numerous high-profile projects, including master planning for the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede and the China Western Movie Resort, and design/build projects for the BC Canada Place in Torino, Italy, for the 2006 Winter Olympics, and the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. Jan has also lent his talents to major projects for the Paris Pompidou Centre, the J. Paul Getty Museum, NASA, and more.

Duane Fast

A TAA Canada board member for the past ten years, Duane Fast’s roles have included President and currently Treasurer, as well as being a founding member and sitting co-chair of the Marketing Committee. The Marketing Committee works as an advocate for increased international and national business opportunities for Canadian themed attractions industries.
Artcraft Display Graphics Inc., a graphics manufacturer specializing in environmentally friendly display products for museums, parks, zoos, aquariums, science centers and themed attractions, is Duane’s major vocation. He is also a monthly columnist for several international trade and business magazines, providing insights and information about current technology and trends.

Brian Rudko

Director, Pro Modelbuilders Inc.
Brian Rudko has been active in the model building and display industry in Vancouver for over 25 years. He is a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Alberta and also holds a diploma in Art Education. He has owned and managed a Vancouver based model shop (Pro Modelbuilders Inc.) since 1995, and has extensive experience in all aspects and facets of model and display production. He joined the TAA Canada Board late 2004, and became secretary in February 2005.

Barry Marshall
TAA Canada Past President and Education Co-Chair
CEO, Karo Design
As Karo’s Senior Principal, Barry combines over 30 years of experience in design internationally with expertise in brand strategy, interior and exhibit environments and environmental graphics. His particular expertise is in experiential visitor environments at public attractions, world expos, large mixed-use facilities, visitor centres, tourism, sports transportation and retail centres. Barry trained as an industrial designer in Canada and the UK, and worked as a senior designer with internationally renowned Conran Associates in London on a variety of major projects involving themed visitor environments in Europe and the US. A founding board member of Design Vancouver, Barry is a former Chair of the BC Industrial Designers Association and a recipient of the Canada Award for Business Excellence (Gold Award) for Industrial Design. He is President of the Themed Attraction Association (TAA). A passionate speaker and instructor since 1983, Barry presents at business seminars and has taught at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and at Kwantlen University College.

Eric Ansley
TAA Canada Communications Chair

Eric Ansley has been in the communication design business for 25 years—as graphic designer, art director and studio director to principal of his own consulting firm, Cone House Inc. ConeHouse has produced audiovisual and exhibit projects as joint venture partner or as subcontractor for BC Hydro, Environment BC, ICBC, Mascot Mine and Harrison Caves in Barbados. A specialty is development of brand management websites for clients including the Government of British Columbia, and recently, the Calgary Stampede.
When Ansley was Vice President of beleaguered Pacific Ballet Theatre Society he successfully lobbied to re-brand the organization as Ballet British Columbia. He was a Regional Representative for the Burning Man Festival in 2000 and 2001. Ansley also served as chair of a fundraising committee for the Dance Foundation. Concurrent with his commitment to TAA Canada, Ansley is President of Tazopia Projects Society. Ansley joined the Board of TAA Canada in 2005 as Chair of the Events Committee and now serves as Chair of the Communications Committee.

Chris Au
TAA Canada Communications Associate Chair
Principal, Didax Design Group Inc.
Chris’ work in communications design has spanned the disciplines of exhibition design, graphic design, interior design and product design.
He was born in Guagzhou China, but was raised, educated and began his professional career in Winnipeg, MB. He spent 9 years as an exhibit designer with the Museum of Man and Nature before coming to Vancouver to work on Expo86 projects and has not looked back since.
The range of projects in which he has played key roles include interpretive and visitor centres, international expositions, commercial and trade exhibits, corporate and marketing communications, hospitality facilities, and brand integration programs. The client sectors for whom Chris has provided creative solutions include cultural and educational institutions, technology and manufacturing, public and private agencies. Chris works with clients to define their message, develop the communications strategy, and deliver cost-effective solutions in a number of media.
Chris works from his home studio under the corporate name of Didax Design Group Inc. He shares his life with Rika and their two school-aged sons by Deer Lake in Burnaby, BC.

Darren Luce, LC IESNA

Darren has 24 years of lighting design, technical, sales, marketing and business experience that has enabled him to realize success within the both the Canadian and Global markets for performance and architectural lighting. Darren is a principal of CD/m2 LIGHTWORKS Corp. a full service lighting company; based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, that specializes in effective performance lighting solutions delivered through integrated turnkey services to projects locally and globally. Darren’s lighting design experience includes high profiles projects such as Vancouver’s Skytrain advanced light rail system and EXPO’86. Most recently Darren was the recipient of a IESNA 2006 International Illumination Design Award Special Citation for the use of dynamic colour and LED technology to illuminate The Full Moon Tower in Galaxy Park, Tianjin , China. Darren is active in the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America as a Section Past President and holds a LC Lighting Professional certification.

Isaac Marshall
TAA Canada Membership and Marketing Co-chair
Principal, AldrichPears Associates
As a Principal with AldrichPears, Isaac has played a key role in leading and defining projects around the world, guiding clients and design teams to create meaningful, engaging exhibits.
Fifteen years of experience in the field of visual communications, including over 10 years of planning and designing interpretive exhibits, gives Isaac a solid “hands-on” knowledge of the industry. His passion is to promote ideas inspiring people to take action to effect change.
Isaac’s primary focus is the development of sustainable cultural institutions where social, economic and environmental considerations drive the planning and design. In addition to managing teams and overseeing the facilitation and conceptual direction of projects, Isaac’s aim is to increase institutions’ relevance in their communities by involving a broad- based constituency of support.
His current work for the Desert Living Center (LEED Platinum-Rated), part of the Las Vegas Springs Preserve in Nevada, and the National Maritime Centre in Vancouver BC are two examples of large master planning initiatives that will promote positive change in their communities upon completion.
Isaac frequently speaks at national and international conferences on topics related to the design of cultural attractions.

Scott McCullough

Scott McCullough is the co-founder Lightroom, a multi-disciplinary creative studio based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since 1995 Lightroom has been creating multi-disciplinary, story-driven experiences that evoke emotion and inspire action. Scott leads the creative vision for Lightroom’s projects. He is an experienced director and executive producer specializing in projects that integrate media across disciplines including show production, 3D visualization, environmental design and interactive content. Scott’s knowledge of how technology can be used to support project objectives and inform audiences while bringing stories to life has successfully guided clients in their search for distinctive and memorable experiences. Screenings and installations of Scott’s work have ranged from film festivals and broadcast television to discovery and interpretive centers, world fairs and Fortune 500 AGMs. Clients include Four Seasons Resorts and Hotels, Trump International, Westin and Hilton. Scott has also worked on projects for the Panama Pavilion at the Lisbon Expo 98, the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic bid team, and the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic bid team. His understanding of branding, passion for technology and attention to revelatory detail ensure every project is a unique and engaging experience.

Ian C. McLennan has extensive experience in public project planning and administration; conceptual/ strategic planning and management of public projects; co-ordination, fund raising, merchandising and sponsorship preparation for projects and events in cultural and educational organizations, museums, planetariums, science/ interpretation centres, tourism projects and World Expositions—with emphasis on creative thinking, exhibition development, production management; feasibility, governance and administration analysis.
