Carter, Canadian artist, designer, and educator has a long history of exploring
the spirit of Canadian design and culture.
In the mid 1960s as Senior Designer for the Hall of Life, Ontario

he designed exhibits featuring Canadian contributions to science and
technology. From then on, Carter has
worked as creative director, curator and exhibition designer on numerous
interpretive centres, museum exhibition and events in Canada and
abroad.
Central
to much of his work is the exploration, documentation and celebration of Canadian applied arts. As an art and design
educator at Emily Carr Institute of Art+Design he has created the first
comprehensive course on Canadian design history: Canadian (design+craft)
(history+theory). This online course includes video clips of noted Canadian
designers from all parts of Canada. Currently he is designing an exhibition and online course for the
celebration of British Columbia’s
150 Anniversary. Titled: BC2008- Applied

Carter
looks forward to seeing “the look” and visual storytelling for the 2010
Vancouver/Whistler Olympics and Paralympics and hopes that the Canadian
government and the private sector continues to brand its applied arts. As “Pacific Gateway” to Canada and the West, there is need to articulate
and share the beauty and unique qualities of Canada through its interpretative
arts.
