Following the AGM, John Nightingale, President of the Vancouver Aquarium, will be our host and present a unique look behind the scenes. His work at the renowned Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, a nearly 50-year-old facility, has helped to maintain the Aquarium's legendary status as one of the world's most revered aquatic institutions. John Nightingale,Ph.D. is one of themost well-known andrespected leaders inaquarium operationsand management inNorth America. Hisbackground and lifelong work in formal andinformal public education makes Nightingalea leader in the current rapid development ofnew educational efforts in aquariums, zoosand museums.Nightingale joined the Vancouver Aquariumin 1993, and since that time he hasguided the expansion of the Aquarium's leadershipin conservation research, while focusingoperations on maintaining its financiallyself-supporting status. Nightingale's educational backgroundincludes a Bachelor of Arts degree in biologyfrom Eastern Oregon State College, aMaster of Science degree in fisheries biologyand Doctorate in Physiology from theUniversity of Washington. He has also completedpost-graduate studies in businessadministration at Seattle University. Nightingale applies nearly 25 years ofexperience and education in the industry tohis current role as president of the VancouverAquarium. This experience ranges fromcurating living animal collections to developingstrategic and physical plans for bothnew and existing institutions, to managingall aspects of aquarium development andoperation. |
